Meet Sydne

My drive to serve the community I live in is rooted in the belief that to those whom much is given, much is required. I love my community and believe in the unlimited possibilities of our youth. The combination of these factors is what motivated me to help coach 2nd and 3rd grade boys’ basketball in the Issaquah Rec program.  It is what led me to volunteer on a committee to address disparities in discipline within the Issaquah School district. It is what compelled me to apply for an Issaquah School Board vacant seat and to run for election to that seat post-appointment. It is why I have spent countless hours talking with community members, students, district teachers, staff, and administration to help balance a divided community navigating together through the pandemic while planning for how we successfully move forward into the newly shaped future.

The daughter of Jamaican immigrants who settled in Chicago, my family moved to Issaquah in 2014 where we currently have 2 children attending Issaquah schools. My active commitment to community through board service spans 15 years starting with Chicago’s Revive Center for Housing and Healing which is dedicated to eradicating homelessness.  My board work continued with my move to the Puget Sound Area as an Advisory Board Member for After-School All-Stars Puget Sound which provides enrichment programs for underserved youth in Issaquah’s neighboring areas.  And since 2019 I have served as a Director on the Issaquah School Board for which I am seeking re-election in November 2021.

In my professional life, I have 25 years of experience delivering exemplary customer outcomes, leading global business change, and focusing on operational excellence in the Healthcare, Financial Services, Professional Services and Manufacturing industries. I joined Microsoft in 2008 and my current role is General Manager of Microsoft’s US Central Marketing Organization.  After attending public-school from kindergarten through high school, I went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in International Politics from Penn State University and a Master of Science Degree in Human-Computer Interaction from DePaul University.  My deep skills in financial oversight, operations management, project management and change management have been invaluable to my work as a school board director.

Though my career is what originally brought me to the Pacific Northwest, I quickly grew to love the natural beauty, the people, and the opportunity to be a champion for our youth. Thank you for visiting my webpage and for supporting me for re-election to the Issaquah School Board in November 2021.
